Ivan Lins is really big in Brazil: when Elis Regina - a truly beloved Brazilian singer - made his song Madalena a hit in the charts, the people hailed him as the successor of Antonio Carlos Jobim. And Lins' fame extends beyond the borders of his country. In 1979 he came into contact with the influential trumpeter, arranger and producer Quincy Jones, and the door to an international career was opened. From that time on his songs could be heard on the recording of Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald and George Benson. Lins has a special bond with the Netherlands and this is demonstrated by his recent collaboration with singer Josée Koning and the Metropole Orkest. Nnenna Freelon was discovered by Elis Marsalis, the father of the famous brothers, who was captivated by her original, adventurous style of singing. Romero Lubambo is a guitarist who combines rich Brazilian rhythms and harmonies with the swing of American jazz. The composer, arranger and keyboard player Jason Miles is the man chosen to support Lins. In 2000 he released A Love Affair: The Music of Ivan Lins, a tribute to the legendary Brazilian.
