Nothing rehearsed, no written staging or pre-arranged lighter moments. Just playing music. Jamming. Presenting. Impacting. 'Come and watch or stay sitting on your backside,' was the subtitle that Rotterdam writer, poet, performer and jazz collector Jules Deelder gave to last season's New Cool Collective theater tour. The show was about jazz and poetry, the blending of words and music and it was a colorful, tumultuous jazz concert. Deelder clearly experiences the penetrating modern jazz of the New Cool Collective, which has Latin elements, right down to his bones. He himself performs pithy music poems or plays a session on the drums with brushes. The writer and the orchestra found the last tour experience so worthwhile that they're already on the road with a new show!
