The German singer Esra Dalfidan consciously blends her Turkish origins with her love of western pop music and jazz. Together with her band Fidan, that consists of fellow students from the conservatory in Amsterdam: Franz von Chossy (piano), Tobias Klein (bass clarinet), Sean Fasciani (bass) and Uli Genenger (drums), she performs a subtle mixture of Turkish melodies, strange rhythms and constantly varying harmonies. The traditional blended with the experimental. Before coming to the Netherlands to study at the conservatory, Esra Dalfidan was working as a music therapist at a neurological rehabilitation clinic. Last year she won the seventh Nederlands Jazz Vocalisten Concours. The debut album of this extremely promising singer from the German metal-industry town of Solingen was recently released: Colors. The album provides colorful insight into Dalfidan´s talent.
