The Brazilian/American pianist and singer Eliane Elias moved from her birthplace São Paulo to New York in the early eighties. Once there, she was almost immediately asked to join the famous jazz group Steps Ahead. When she left the band she released a duo album with her now ex-husband Randy Brecker. Elias is one of the few performers who recorded both jazz and classical albums as a solo artist. As a teenager she was already writing out arrangements by the great Bill Evans. On her latest CD Something for You Elias re-interprets the romantic-impressionist piano music of the Bill Evans Trio. She does this with integrity and great skill, supported by bassist Marc Johnson (her husband) and drummer Joey Baron. Johnson played in Evans' last trio from 1978 to 1980 and found two never-released compositions on old rehearsal tapes. Eliane Elias has arranged these pieces and added new notes or lyrics, all in the style of Bill Evans.
