Moncef Genoud, who was blind at birth, has learned to play the piano thanks to a combination of willpower and mental strength. Encouraged by his father, who was a great jazz fan, Genoud, blessed with perfect pitch, developed a strong, intuitive capacity to replicate anything he heard by ear. Born in Tunisia raised in Switzerland, the pianist has been a professional musician since 1983. He's developed into one of the most important Swiss jazz musicians with a beautiful, melodic, personal style. Genoud is a good friend of Youssou N'Dour with whom he worked on a new African jazz sound. They both star in the documentary film Return to Gorée. On the CD Aqua, already Genoud's 10th studio album, the pianist showcases his abilities as a composer and arranger, featuring guests like the late Michael Brecker, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Bill Stewart and Scott Colley.
