If you think the gypsies of the Romanian Fanfare Ciocarlia respect the contractual agreements regarding the lengths of sets, you'll be surprised. The group doesn't stop playing until the break of day. The exuberant ode to gypsy music on their new CD Queens and Kings once again offers enough repertoire, varying from speedy dance pieces to traditional, nostalgic 'tzigani' - gypsy songs. The members of the Fanfare Ciocarlia originate from the Roma village Zece Prajini on the Romanian-Moldavian border. After the musicians had been featured in a film, they were discovered by the German music scout Henry Ernst, who saw possibilities to commercialize the band. Presenting their exciting rumbas, horas and sirbas on western stages they've grown into a band with a genuine cult status.
