The duo album Crystal Silence of pianist Chick Corea and vibist Gary Burton most certainly belongs to the canon of timeless jazz masterpieces. The album - and Chick Corea's Return To Forever - proved to be the worldwide launch of ECM, the jazz label which also will be put in the spotlights during this festival. Corea, who has never denied his Latin roots, started his career in the bands of Willie Bobo and Mongo Santamaria and navigated via Blue Mitchell, Miles Davis and Stan Getz to a glorious solo career, in which this omnivore has played about everything that can be played in jazz. Burton, the inventor of the four mallet-style of playing on the vibraphone, started out in the bands of George Shearing and Stan Getz. Along the way he became the godfather of a whole generation of 'new style' vibists. For many of us a live concert of these two masters will be a dream come true.
