For the two-year-old New Generation Big Band the 'funky, groovy beats with a smashing wind section' act like fuel. The new style big band, that mixes jazz with funk, punk, electro, world and hip-hop influences, toured with hip-hop formation Pete Philly & Perquisite, they performed for instance at Lowlands 2006. That concert resulted in the 'Gouden Greep 2006', a prize for the most striking collaboration. Had Je Wat?, the first CD of the enthusiastic group, consists of originals that are somewhat rooted in the swing tradition. Various guests are featured on the album as well, such as
Pete Philly & Perquisite and Benjamin Herman. The New Generation Big Band is a refreshing collective of a new generation of jazz musicians. Most of them have recently finished their studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
