The Belgian trumpeter and composer Bert Joris ranks among Europe's most versatile and talented jazz musicians. He leads his own quartet, performs as a soloist and is a much-indemand composer/arranger writing for various ensembles including the Brussels Jazz Orchestra, a big band he recorded several CD's with. Joris started playing the trumpet at the age of 14. As a member of the BRT Radio Jazz Orchestra he did not only develop his ability to solo, but also his skills as a composer, arranger and director. From 1992 and onward he started an intense partnership with Belgian guitarist Philip Catherine. But he also toured Europe with other musicians and ensembles. Recently he recorded the CD Magone for the respected French Dreyfuss label. On that CD mostly originals, including the beautiful title song. The musician felt a bit restrained to put the pieces on CD: "I have the feeling that they're still growing. Each concert is a search for new horizons.
