The Belgian-French collective Mâäk's Spirit recently released their new CD Five. The group mainly operates in the avant-garde section and their diverging compositions often need a second listen. Jazz, improvisation and the search for new colors in music are Mâäk's Spirit's principal sources of inspiration. The eclectic septet plays music with a remarkably varied acoustic sound spectrum, characterized by sudden changes of tempo and song structures that are all but conventional. Their last CD but one Le Nom du Vent, released on the Nefertiti label, has been the backbone of their tours since 2003. On the powerful CD Five the collective performs compositions of guitarist Jean-Yves Evrard.
