Today Artist in Residence Wynton Marsalis and Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra will focus on the music of a true jazz legend: Ornette Coleman. Coleman is being considered one of the most progressive innovators in the jazz Avantgarde of the late 1950ies/early 1960ies, introducing free improvisation over pulse driven rhythms. The choice of the orchestra to play Coleman at the North Sea Jazz Festival is very challenging –as it has a reputation for playing more in the tradition usually--. The orchestra never lets down in quality, so this will definitely be a concert worth the visit!
