The clearness of pop music with the freedom of jazz. That's the starting point of the formation VOER. Or, to quote singer Vera van der Poel, 'VOER grabs the density and power of pop and moves in all directions on the inside.' In her new band VOER, founded with the Zapp String Quartet jazz violinist Oene van Geel, she sings mysterious ethno grooves, zappaesque jazz rock and musing pop songs. So, a continuously varying cross-over band sound, including world beat influences and a load of electronic effects. The sextet released its first album last year, sporting the catchy title Bite. The singer uses her voice as one of the instruments: her mysterious, almost free-styling vocals beautifully match Van Geel's violin playing.
