Klezmer, the East European Jewish music with gypsy and Balkan influences, originally is a form of dance and party music. Bandleader/saxophonist Job Chajes' Amsterdam Klezmer Band, founded in 1996, has found its way to a broad audience after a remarkable advance by means of squares, pubs and later various festivals with their serious mix of Yiddish, Ska and Balkan music. The greater part of the music was written by the musicians themselves, who all contribute to an ever growing collection of inspiring Balkan cross-overs. Through the years there have been numerous collaborations with related groups. Like the gypsy company Galata Gypsie Band from Turkey, the result of which was recorded on the CD Katakofti from 2003. Just as remarkable was the musical melting pot created with the original jazz trio Man Bites Dog. Recently they presented beats with klezmer in the Amsterdam Klezmer Band Remixed Project in collaboration with DJ's C-mon & Kypski.
