The Norwegian jazz pianist and composer Christian Wallumrød is the sort of musician you would expect to record for the German quality label ECM. In his minimalistic yet sensitive way of playing, composition and improvisation gradually converge. Wallumrød clearly is a great admirer of Paul Bley, in whose remarkably introvert style time sometimes seems to stand still. Wallumrød started to get interested in jazz when he was fifteen years old. A few years later he was admitted at the conservatory of Trondheim. The Norwegian paid his dues by playing with a lot of great names from the Norwegian scene including Bugge Wesseltoft and Nils Petter Molvær. After having spent a few years in a punk jazz ensemble, he now dedicates all his time to projects for ECM, including the acoustic Christian Wallumrød Ensemble. He composes music for the ensemble on a very high level, as can be heard on the CD A Year from Easter.
