The success story of the Cuban group Buena Vista Social Club™, founded by the American musician and producer Ry Cooder, is common knowledge. The nostalgic, swinging and most of all relaxed Cuban son CD's of senior star musicians like Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González, Compay Segundo and Omara Portuondo have been selling by the thousands in the last few years. Cuban classics, full of nostalgia, melancholy and longing have popularized Latin music a great deal. The passing away of Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo and Rubén González seriously minimized the band. The traditional Cuban heritage is in the safe hands of the new generation Buena Vista Social Club™ musicians including Guajiro Mirabal, Cachaíto López, Manuel Galbán and Aguaje Ramos. On the recent CD Rhythms del Mundo Cuba they present, with the aid of pop musicians like Sting, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Maroon 5 and U2's Bono, a mix of Afro-Cuban sounds and western pop music.
