The recently graduated student Margriet Sjoerdsma is a debutant at the festival. Last year she presented her first CD With the Whisper of a Morning. She freely moves in the twilight zone between jazz and pop with a personal sound and songs that are pleasant to the ear. Sjoerdsma, from the Dutch province of Limburg, steadily works on her own material, but she also gives standards a rejuvenating makeover. Sjoerdsma studied with Rita Reys the 'grande dame' of jazz. This year she'll sing her accessible jazz in the theaters. Her regular piano player is Dimitar Bodurov, who also plays at the festival with his own band. Earlier this year he won the Young Pianist Foundation Pianoconcours Jazz 2007.
