The words blues and Barrelhouse are often spoken in one breath. Over thirty years the band, formerly known as Barrelhouse Bailey's Blues & Boogie Band, has presented its undiluted rhythm & blues. Their first gig was in 1974 and in the 10 years to follow Barrelhouse released an outstanding album every year. The band's definitive shape and sound were established by the arrival of singer Tineke Schoemaker. Although electric instruments form the foundation of the band, the musicians just love to play a completely acoustic concert every now and then. Back to the roots of the blues: just a voice and a guitar, preferably on a small stage, which was exemplified by the survey DVD Life Has Many Faces. At North Sea Jazz Barrelhouse will present the best of both worlds: acoustic ánd electric.
