Because of Hurricane Katrina’s devastating powers many musicians have lost their homes, studios or clubs. The band Spirit of New Orleans was founded in order to provide the traditional jazz players of New Orleans with gigs to earn their living. The group, led by the young trumpeter Mark Braud, has been successfully touring Europe since 2005. He got his professional training in the bands of Dr. Michael White and Harry Connick Jr. Braud formed a band comprised of well-known names from the New Orleans scene, that provide all their energy to keep the musical tradition of their native country alive.
