Guitarist Martijn van Iterson is one of the most remarkable new guitarists and composers in the Dutch jazz scene. With the one and only Wim Overgaaw, the Nestor of Dutch jazz guitar, a firm foundation was laid for the development of this talented musician. In 2004 he received the North Sea Jazz Festival’s Bird Award ‘Artist Deserving Wider Recognition’ . The Leiden born Van Iterson is a member of the Ilja Reijngoud quartet, the Ruud Jacobs quintet and the Sjoerd Dijkhuizen quartet. He’s also in great demand as a guest soloist. With his own quartet he only plays his own compositions, which could be described as contemporary acoustic jazz with a heart for tradition. In 2004 he put out The Whole Bunch, an album that was also noticed in America. His latest album has just been released.
