Los Hermanos Martinez is the band built around the brothers Martinez: baritone saxophonist Juan and soprano/alto saxophonist Miguel. Both brothers distinguished themselves as versatile soloists. Miguel has been the leader of Martinez Move for ever and a day. Juan has been playing in the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw for years now and is the co-leader of the Juan Martinez/Nils van Haften Kwintet. After some years of personal development the two brothers have found each other in a mutual feeling for swing, energy and musical depth. In their quintet, featuring the rhythm section John Engels, Rob van Bavel and Jeroen Vierdag, they emphasize grooves, modal and free improvisations in sixties material by a/o Joe Henderson and Wayne Shorter. Furthermore elements of traditional Spanish folk music are a source of inspiration.
