Initially
Kenny Barron was just saxophonist Bill Barron’s little brother, but eventually he has become one of the finest and most versatile old school pianists. Barron, born in Philadelphia, already had such a good reputation in the beginning of the sixties, that trumpet player Dizzy Gillespie hired him without having heard him playing one single note. In Gillespie’s group Barron developed his talent for latin tinged rhythms. Five years later the jazz world was at his feet. Kenny Barron had grown into the ideal sideman and played with top musicians like Freddie Hubbard and Ron Carter. Next to that he formed his own bands. From 1986 he frequently recorded with tenor saxophonist Stan Getz. Getz’s last album before he died is the legendary
People Time from 1991, where he forms a brilliant duo with Barron. On this edition of North Sea Jazz Barron plays with bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa and drummer Victor Lewis.
