The recently released compilation album Power proves that the New York born bassist, multi-instrumentalist, producer and label owner Marcus Miller can do almost anything. On this anthology we find a selection of pieces from the instrumental albums he has put out since 1993. The pinnacle of Miller’s career lies before that: no one has forgotten his merits as a musician in master-trumpeter Miles Davis’ band and as the producer of important Davis’ albums like Tutu. With these efforts he established his name so he could use his brilliant musical ideas producing albums of David Sanborn, Luther Vandross, Al Jarreau and Chaka Kahn. Miller’s music is a mix of funk, jazz rock and R&B. Furthermore the bassist has composed a lot of soundtracks including Boomerang. On his latest CD Silver Rain Miller collaborates with vocalists like Lalah Hathaway and Macy Gray and saxofonist Kenny Garrett.
