It’s impossible to describe the music of the Norwegian woodwind player Trygve Seim in just a few words. Because he draws from many musical trends and he uses unusual orchestral sound qualities, there isn’t one single name that does justice to his music. Seim, who made his breakthrough in the international jazz world around the year 2000 with Different Rivers, became acquainted with the music of Jan Garbarek when he was fourteen. He was immediately attracted by the melodies and pursued his dream to become a saxophonist. He was also touched by trumpeter Miles Davis. The latter, just like Garbarek, made himself subordinate to the music. In the quality label ECM Seim found the perfect home-ground for his musical ideas. Sangam displays a variety of contrasting sounds, while he and his quartet present more earthy jazz on his latest CD The Source.
