Joey Calderazzo was just a twenty-something when he established his reputation as the explosive piano player of the Michael Brecker Band. Night after night he succeeded in completely flooring the audience - even after the ecstatic solo’s of guitarist Mike Stern an Brecker himself. After Kenny Kirkland’s death he became a member of the Branford Marsalis Quartet and in the meantime he worked diligently on his solo career. Calderazzo started playing the piano when he was eight years old. At first he studied classical piano, but a few years later he discovered jazz. He considers his latest album Haiku, a solo performance of ten brilliant pieces, as the pinnacle of his career so far.
