The 30-year-old
Davell Crawford, R&B–star James ‘Sugar Boy’ Crawford’s grandson, is a singer/pianist who carries on the tradition of New Orleans giants like Professor Longhair and James Booker. Crawford has been playing the piano since he was seven years old and toured Europe as a young teenager. On his debut album
Let Them Talk he is accompanied by famous co-citizens like drummer Herman Ernest III and saxophonist Alvi ‘Red’ Tyler. Like so many young musicians from New Orleans he has adopted a style that is a synthesis of funk, R&B and gospel.
