Silje Nergaard has carved her own niche in the European jazz scene. Thanks to her enchanting voice, her melodic, romantic compositions and her charming appearance, Silje is an artist whose new albums are longingly anticipated. And not just in her native Norway, where she was elected artist of the year. During her concert in Amsterdam she proved to be very popular in Holland as well: she silenced the audience with intuitively chosen notes that glided by, gently whirling, in all sorts of variations. Sometimes Silje is the little lady with the shrill, somewhat nasal cartoon voice. But she also has a silken variation with some light vibrato. And there is also the high and seductive lure, that transformed her, especially at the end of the concert, into a mythical siren, with softly nagging, but crystal clear sustained notes. Nobody could resist her.
