The one and only Stevie Wonder appears to be a huge fan of the British singer and pianist
Omar - a big name in the English soul scene. Wonder has been following this rising star ever since his debut album
There’s Nothing Like This in 1992 and he has kept faith in Omar’s breakthrough. And he did more than that: he even promised to write a song for him. And now, after fourteen years, this song has finally been recorded.
Sing [If You Want It] is Omar’s sixth CD. While his last album
Best By Far was still influenced by latin jazz and movie soundtracks, on his new release he prefers funky dance music with hip-hop influences. Not only Stevie Wonder, but also Angie Stone and Common contributed to the album. Omar, who used to be the percussionist in the Kent Youth Orchestra and who studied at the Guildhall School Of Music in London, has been making music for over twenty years now.
