Gabriel Rios, the Belgian from Puerto Rico, has made a name for himself in Holland in less than two years. The most important reason is, of course, his hit single Broad Daylight that kept on singing in the heads of many television viewers after having seen the well-known commercial. A less know fact is that the late filmmaker Theo van Gogh used the song in his film 06/05, about the murdered Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn. For his guitar music, Gabriel Rios, a.k.a. the ‘samba Belgian’, draws from various Latino styles. He performs in small and big line-ups, like last year when he was successful at the Lowlands-festival, Pinkpop, Noorderslag and Motel Mozaique. Rios, who studied painting in Gent, started out with the band The Nothing Bastards. Later he founded the group L. Santo. Alas! His solo-album Ghostboy was released in 2004. After that he put out the live album En Vivo.
