Bassist Stefan Lievestro, who was born in Apeldoorn and lives in Rotterdam, has made a reputation as a skilful sideman in the last few years. Last year he won the Deloitte Jazz Award, which enabled him to finally record his ideas as a bandleader. In order to do so, he formed his own sextet - including names from the forefront of the Dutch jazz scene -, founded his own label Mainlands and hit the studio. The CD Breakfast in Walhalla represents a fresh outlook on modern creative European jazz. Lievestro (1964) received a Master's Degree with distinction at the Hilversum Conservatory and a year later he studied with Marc Johnson in New York. In 1991 he was awarded the Soloist Prize at the Karlovy Vary Jazz Festival in the Tsjech Republic.
