Jazz saxophonist
Yuri Honing never commits himself to one genre for too long. He made albums with the Nestor of improvisation, Misha Mengelberg, he paid tribute to those who have inspired him when he was in his teens, and for quite a while he was drawn to Arab music. Last year he presented another new idea. His regular trio with bassist Tony Overwater and drummer Joost Lijbaart became a quartet when Frank Möbus, the German guitarist of Der Rote Bereich, joined the group. And the former acoustic sound now became electric, with ,,just as much flexibility, transparency and control with regard to sound clusters and layers, as an acoustic band. For me electric means being closer to the present”, according to the saxophonist. The double CD
Temptation is the result of many influences. Electric sound waves consist of ingredients of fusion and rock, but they have a mysterious and intoxicating effect at the same time. The rest of the band name - Paradise - evidently refers to the freedom of music. According to Honing ,,the most important motivation and attraction in music.”
