Many British people consider the English singer
Alice Russell from Brighton a true competitor for colleague Joss Stone. That is, Russell is also a small, white, blond lady with a lot of soul and a great voice. However as for their music these ladies don’t really have much in common. While Stone specializes in authentic soul and R&B, one of Russell’s strong points is her contemporary sound that varies in each song. Recently the follow up of her debut album
Under a Munka Moon from 2004, came out. On the new CD
My Favourite Letters a kaleidoscope of styles is presented: soul combined with gospel, hiphop, jazz, broken beat, electronics and funk. Whatever Russell - who as a teenager sang in blues bands in bars and clubs - sings, it always sounds very emotional. In short, there is a lot to be discovered!
