Robert Mitchell has been a well-known name in the British jazz scene. The classically trained Mitchell, coming from Essex, went from funk via fusion to neo bop. Saxophonist Steve Coleman and his M-Base related improvisations inspired Mitchell. But the British press describes the pianist’s playing as a combination of a young McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock, mixed with British funk influences. But anyhow, this young talent has already quite some projects in his name. On his new album

Panacea, where singer Deborah Jordan has a big part. We also heard her sing at last year’s festival when she performed with the soul and break-beat group Silhouette Brown, featuring Mitchell.
