The Milwaukee born singer Al Jarreau can look back on a shining career, that yielded no less than five Grammy's. The most striking thing about this is the fact that he has been the only vocalist who won in three different categories: jazz, pop and R&B. As the son of a reverent Jarreau had his first singing experiences in a church choir. After having studied psychology he worked as a social worker for some time, but in the end he turned to music. After albums like We Got By and Glow he made a breakthrough in 1977 with Look to the Rainbow. From that moment on this extraordinary vocal stylist, who also writes beautiful songs, became one of the great names in the international music world. Seemingly effortlessly this vocal acrobat combines jazz with soul, funk, gospel and African vocals. On his latest CD Accentuate The Positive Jarreau presents another side of himself with a quartet of piano, drums, bass and guitar and a collection of classic jazz standards.
