The Japanese sextet
Soil & Pimp have made quite a name for themselves in the past year as a result of their explosive performances. The response is something in between amazement and enthusiasm, because once you have heard and seen these guys from Tokyo, you are intrigued. Shacho (vocals), Tabu Zombie (trumpet), Motoharu (sax), Josei (piano), Akita Goldman (bass) and Midoryn (drums) form a unique live band who have managed, without even having a CD, to perform at their country’s most popular festival: the Fuji Rock Festival. Their concert was considered the highlight of the year 2003, according to all the positive reactions. The mini album
Pimpin that followed shortly after was well received and last year their first complete album
Pimp Master was released. Soil & Pimp cross musical boundaries and attract both the regular jazz audience and also soul, club and rock fans. In England BBC radio DJ Gilles Peterson loves their music. In the Netherlands saxophonist Benjamin Herman is their biggest fan.
