If anyone is entitled to name a project
Remembering Clifford, it would be
Benny Golson. For it was this 77-year-old veteran who composed the beautiful ballad
I Remember Clifford. Not many people know how many beautiful standards and hard bop classics this creative mind wrote to his name.
Stablemates,
Whisper Not,
Along Came Betty,
Killer Joe and
Blues March: they’re all timeless compositions that flowed from Golson’s pen. Besides his talent for composing, which was strongly nourished by Tadd Dameron’s work, Golson also developed into a great tenor saxophonist. With two master trumpeters like Randy Brecker and Eddie Henderson in his ranks Golson, will feel completely at home as a soloist and arranger. The rhythm section – Mike Ledonne (piano), Buster Williams (bass), Al Foster (drums) – is one of the strongest units in modern jazz and guarantees a swinging tribute to Clifford Brown, one of the best trumpeters that jazz has ever produced.
