There are always youngsters in his sextet. That keeps the music of 75-year old Dim Kesber alive. Especially for his jubilee concert at North Sea Jazz – Kesber has been playing jazz for 60 years – he, as usual, made a selection of merely young talented jazz musicians, like pianist Peter Beets and trumpet player Ellister van der Molen. It’s a special year for saxophonist and clarinettist Dim Kesber, with many festivities that look back on his musical career. At the age of fifteen he started playing with the famous Dixieland orchestra Dutch Swing College, led by Peter Schilperoort who gave Kesber his first clarinet lessons during the war. At first Dim played mainly Dixieland, but later on he, accompanied by his own sextet Dim Kesber & Friends, also started playing swing, Ellington and the blues. The group presents strongly swinging mainstream jazz, with a little modern touch and a whole lot of blues.
