If we are to believe the Australian press, singer Michelle Nicolle from Melbourne is the best jazz vocalist to be found anywhere on the continent. Nicolle, who has a couple of international music prizes to her name, started playing the violin at the age of eight. Music was a very important part of her life at high school during which she played piano and sang in a choir. Jazz came into her life when she heard Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald and started studying at the conservatory. Today, years later, Michelle Nicolle is leading her own quartet, is singing backing vocals for various artists and she is first soprano in het The Melbourne Chorale. In 1998 Nicolle made her first album. Her fifth album will be released very soon.
