The American tenor saxophonist Ken VanderMark is sure to have found an extra challenge by playing with the young Norwegian drummer Paal Nilssen-Love, exponent of a new generation high-profile European jazz musicians. Nilssen-love, educated by the jazz that was played in his father's jazz club, started his musical career at the early age of twenty and delivered a remarkable solo project in 2001. In addition to many participations in the Norwegian jazz scene he also plays a.o. in the Peter Brötzmann Chicago Tentet and together with Vandermark he put together various groups including Schooldays and FME. Ken Vandermark is the modern Chicago music scene's figurehead. With his powerful avant-garde group Vandermark Five he succeeds in reaching a young, alternative public with his hardcore free jazz. He played in Hall Russel's NRG Ensemble and nowadays he works with a.o. the DKV Trio and Spaceways Inc. The duo's enthralling interplay can also be heard on two CD's: Dual Pleasure 1 and 2.
