Not many people will know that the ‘éminence grise’ of Brazilian jazz, multi-instrumentalist and composer Hermeto Pascoal once played with the great Miles Davis. In 1969 Miles invited the Brazilian to come and play with him in New York and recorded Pascoal’s composition Little Church on the album Live-Evil. Also other great jazz musicians were impressed by this special man. For instance John McLaughlin and Gil Evans were very interested in his complex compositions which they also frequently played. It’s hard to come up with an instrument that Pascoal hasn’t mastered. The man performs on approximately 80 albums as a sideman. The virtuoso keeps surprising the audience with his combinations of styles, ingeniously interwoven Brazilian rhythms, American jazz and disruptive sound effects, like beating on a tea pot or bird sounds. Prepare for crazy improvisations with brilliant ideas!
