Guitarist, composer, singer and arranger Joel Harrison creates jazz that is drenched in other influences. Blues, African rhythms, country melodies and even classical music, they’re all ingredients of the music of this unpredictable musician. Free Country is a music project that mixes jazz with old country and folk music from the Appalachian Mountains. The project has been recorded on two CDs. The first was released in 2003 and received favourable reviews by the music press. The second, So Long 2nd Street, Free Country II, continues to explore this musical path, introducing next to jazz and country also blues and spirituals. Harrison does this once again with the help of the young, adventurous saxophonist David Binney and with his own voice, recorded on CD for the first time.
