There are hardly any jazz guitarists who were not influenced by Jim Hall. What Bill Evans was for the piano, Jim Hall still is for the guitar. With his subdued tone, complex harmonies and different voicings, this master of the six strings is instantly recognizable. At the end of the fifties and beginning of the sixties, he contributed to records that were of great historical importance. Sonny Rollins’ The Bridge is still talked about just like the classic album The Jimmy Giuffre 3, one of the masterpieces provided by reed player Jimmy Giuffre. Lately Jim Hall has manifested himself more and more as a gifted composer and arranger. Hall also loves the duet form (a.o. with Pat Metheny), but here in The Hague he plans to go on an adventurous trip with a quartet.
