After the American singer Lizz Wright, thanks to her warm contribution at a Billie Holiday tribute three years ago, had been discovered, her career went sky high. She made Salt, a very successful debut album with top musicians Brian Blade, Danilo Perez, Chris Potter and Jeff Haynes. She performed everywhere in America, did a promotion tour in Europe and performed at various festivals. Meanwhile she was getting inspiration for her second album, for which she chose a new direction. While Salt was a relatively soulful album with jazz and r&b, the recently released Dreaming Wide Awake is according to the tradition of singer/song writing with beautiful modest songs. Wright, who as the youngest of three children learned how to sing in her father’s church in the State of Georgia, decided to write her songs with the help of another instrument than the familiar piano: the acoustic guitar, an instrument that blends very well with her rich voice.
