Bassist Sven Schuster, guitarist Anton Goudsmit, tenor saxophonist Efraïm Trujillo and drummer Victor de Boo make up Shooster, a quartet that guarantees ‘new swing jazz’. The spectrum varies from groovy danceable power jazz to soft emotional ballads. The four musicians, who individually claim special places in Dutch jazz and also play the international stages, have been together since 1995. De German band leader Sven Schuster, who after studying music in Austria moved to the Netherlands to continue his studies at the Hilversum Conservatory, composed ten pieces for the Shooster album in which he also left some space for the string quartet. Schuster profiles himself with bass playing that the critics characterize as ‘warm and melodic’. If we add to all that the creative playing of Goudsmit, the meaningful notes of Trujillo and the maverick blows of De Boo and the outcome is sure to be positive.
