On her debut CD Heard in the Scene (2002) she sang several of her own compositions, jazz standards and arrangements of songs by George Gershwin, Todd Rundgren, Stevie Wonder and Kurt Weill. Her new music project Rush in the Woods, featuring pianist Bert van den Brink, bassist Tony Overwater and percussionist Joshua Samson, goes beyond that. On this album the singer Heleen van den Hombergh unites her two great loves: jazz and the rain forest. And this time all pieces are written by her. “The rain forest has always inspired me enormously”, Heleen says. “Everything grows extremely fast and everything that falls to the ground is absorbed and has vanished within one day. I am fascinated by these natural processes and the connection with human emotions. Once I found this click, the compositions flowed out of my pen naturally. Writing sort of felt like coming home.”
