Benny Golson won't just make history as one of the most tasteful hard bop tenor saxophonists, but also as the composer of a whole string of jazz standards such as I Remember Clifford, Killer Joe, Stable Mates, Whisper Not, Along Came Betty and Blues March - gems that all flowed from Golson's pen. Golson, together with pianist Cedar Walton, is the co-leader of the Original Messengers Quintet, a name that betrays that both musicians once were members of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. For Blakey, Walton wrote beautiful compositions as Mosaic, Ugetsu and Bolivia. Later he developed into a excellent interpreter of the standard repertoire. With Golson and Walton North Sea booked a page of jazz history.
