Ever since his debut in 1990 RoyHargrove has been one of the most remarkable young jazz musicians. Tutored by grand masters like Wynton Marsalis, a bunch of memorable performances in the pocket and a whole lot of CD’s to his name, Hargrove can look back on fifteen years of performances and recordings as a professional. A long period he’s changed music styles all the time: he travelled from bebop and blues to Afro-Cuban Latin jazz or ballads with string orchestra like his CD Moment to Moment. But also musical styles like hip hop, soul and r&b have always interested the energetic trumpeter. With his The RH Factor he looks for the intersections of neo soul, hip hop and jazz. On the CD Hard Groove and the EP Strength Hargrove creates a an extremely nice enticing sound of the future together with rappers like Q-tip and Common, soul singer Erykah Badu and Soulquarians D’Angelo, James Poyser and Pino Palladino.
