Saxophonist Boney James plays the best smooth jazz as we can hear on his latest album Pure. He produces silk soft saxophone solos against a background of r&b, soul and easy listening jazz. Guests on the album are soul singers Dwele and Bilal. Boney James, born as James Oppenheim, grew up in New York where he studied the clarinet and the saxophone as a teenager. He played for four years in Morris Day's band and his star rose when he played with Randy Crawford, Sheena Easton and the Isley Brothers. He made his first album in 1992 and two years later he got a record deal at Warner Bros. Since then many beautiful albums have been released. The CD Ride was even nominated for a Grammy in 2002.
