In 1991 the American guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel was plucked from Berklee School of Music by vibraphone player Gary Burton. Soon he toured straight away with some of the greatest jazz musicians including Joe Lovano, Paul Motian and Joe Henderson. Rosenwinkel’s talent ripened in a more or less straight ahead jazz environment but that was no reason for him not to think of the development of jazz. He is one of those musicians who’s able to weld tradition and renewal seamlessly together. He’s rubbing shoulders with musicians who’ve paid their dues and have found a clear and very personal voice. On his album Deep Song he’s playing with friendly jazz greats like tenor player Joshua Redman, pianist Brad Mehldau, drummer Ali Jackson and bassist Larry Grenadier.
