The passionate sound characterized by howling and screaming high notes is David Sanborn's greatest strength on the alto sax. David Sanborn is a musician who has always remained faithful to himself during his diverging career. Even as a teenager he was able to work with Albert King. Subsequently he became a member of the Gil Evans Band, an orchestra where he could really develop his talent. In a short time Sanborn became a household name in the scene. Whether it is a jam session or collaboration with a 60-piece orchestra, Sanborn is always in charge. He's a fusion-jazz master and knows how to present the genre with blood, sweat and tears. Moreover he's open to styles like r&b, hip hop and pop, which makes his music very diverse. Recently he released another CD. On the colourful Closer he plays with a.o. Christian McBride (during this festival also in the line-up), guitarist Russell Malone and singer Lizz Wright.
