In the jazz scène saxophonist Boris van der Lek is known mainly for his collaboration with Hans Dulfer. Together they form the stout horn duo Tough Tenors. Besides that, he played on many recordings of a.o. Laura Fygi, Anneke Grönloh, Denise Jannah and Frank Boeijen. He had great successes with rocker Herman Brood, hard bop jazz formation The Houdini's and with Dulfer. Recently the horn player made his own album, Blue & Sentimental, with his own Boris Van Der Lek Quintet featuring Ton van Bergeik on guitar, Hein van de Geyn on double bass, Han Bennink on drums and Thijs van Leer, not on flute this time, but on Hammond organ. Van der Lek plays his favourite jazz music, classic songs like Body & Soul, Bag's Groove, Blue Monk and Georgia On My Mind, drenched with blues and soul.
